Dynamic Trend + Awesome Oscillator MT4 Scalping Strategy

Introduction

This scalping strategy uses the Dynamic Trend Cleaned Up indicator and the Awesome Oscillator to trade short bursts of momentum on the lower time frames.

The Dynamic Trend provides the directional bias, while the Awesome Oscillator confirms quick momentum shifts.

This combination allows traders to capture fast moves of 5–20 pips with controlled risk.

The strategy works best on liquid currency pairs such as EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, EURJPY, and GBPJPY.

These pairs offer tight spreads and enough volatility for scalping.

Time frames M1, M5, and M15 are recommended, with M5 often giving the best balance between speed and accuracy.

Buy Entry Rules

  • The price trades above the Dynamic Trend channel.
  • The Awesome oscillator crosses above zero.
  • Enter on the close of the confirmation candle.
  • Stop loss: 5–10 pips below the recent swing low.
  • Take profit: aim for 10–20 pips, or exit when the Awesome oscillator flips below zero.

Sell Entry Rules

  • The price trades below the Dynamic Trend channel.
  • The Awesome oscillator crosses below zero.
  • Enter on the close of the confirmation candle.
  • Stop loss: 5–10 pips above the recent swing high.
  • Take profit: aim for 10–20 pips, or exit when the Awesome oscillator flips above zero.

Advantages

  • Quick trades with defined risk, suitable for active traders.
  • Works best on pairs with low spreads and high liquidity.
  • High frequency of setups across sessions, like London and New York.
  • Scalable: it can be used for both 5–10 pip grabs or slightly longer runs of 20 pips.

Drawbacks

  • Requires constant screen time and fast execution.
  • Spreads and slippage can eat into profits if broker conditions are poor.
  • Choppy sessions (e.g., during low liquidity hours) can generate false signals.
  • Not suitable for traders who cannot monitor charts actively.

Example Case Study 1 — EURUSD M5 Scalping

Trade: A long entry was taken at 1.0650 with a 6-pip stop loss.

The target was set at 12 pips. Within 20 minutes, the trade hit the target for a +12 pip gain.

Example Case Study 2 — GBPJPY M1 Fast Scalping

GBPJPY showed a clear downtrend on the M1 chart during the New York session.

Price retraced slightly, while Dynamic Trend stayed bearish.

The Awesome oscillator flipped from green to red below zero.

The target was set at 16 pips. The move reached the target in less than 10 minutes, delivering a fast +16 pip gain.

Strategy Tips

  • Stick to liquid pairs like EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, EURJPY, and GBPJPY for tight spreads.
  • Focus on active sessions: London, New York, or session overlaps for the strongest moves.
  • Avoid low-volume hours like late Asian or post-New York close.
  • Consider using a broker with low spreads and fast execution to maximize gains.
  • Exit trades quickly if the Awesome oscillator shifts color against your entry.
  • Risk is small per trade (0.5–1% of account) since scalping produces many signals.
